HARVESTING METHODS

Transplant operations are performed on an outpatient basis, with mild sedation (optional) and injected local anesthesia, which typically last about six hours. The scalp is shampooed and then treated with an antibacterial agent prior to the donor scalp being harvested.

There are several different techniques available for the harvesting of hair follicles, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Regardless of which donor harvesting technique is employed, proper extraction of the hair follicle is paramount to ensure the viability of the transplanted hair and avoid transection, the cutting of the hair shaft from the hair follicle. Hair follicles grow at a slight angle to the skin's surface, which means that regardless of technique transplant tissue must be removed with a corresponding angle and not perpendicular to the surface.

At an initial consultation, the surgeon analyzes the patient's scalp, discusses their preferences and expectations, and advises them on the best approach (e.g. single vs. multiple sessions) and what results might reasonably be expected. Pre-operative folliscopy will help to know the actual existing density of hair, so that postoperative results of newly transplanted hair grafts can be accurately assessed. Some patients may benefit with preoperative topical minoxidil application and vitamins.

TOOTH EXTRACTIONS

Tooth extractions are required to remove badly infected or decayed teeth to prevent pain and swelling. If a tooth is too loose, extraction may be the only option. For orthodontic treatment, extractions of certain teeth, usually the premolars and wisdom teeth, may be required.

You will be given an injection (Local Anaesthetic) to numb the tooth prior to the extraction. Numbing cream is applied to the injection site to minimise the discomfort felt during the injection. Before commencing the actual tooth extraction, the dentist will ensure that the tooth is completely numb. Extractions are typically painless. However, you will experience some firm and control pressure as the dentist gently loosens the tooth in its socket.

Some soreness may be experienced after the extraction but you can follow the instructions below to aid in the healing process.

DENTURES

Dentures are a set of false teeth that enable individuals to eat and smile with confidence. They are usually made from lifelike resin teeth bonded to a plastic base. You may have a ‘complete’ or ‘full’ set of denture which replaces all the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaw , or a ‘partial’ set.

Dentures need to be removed every night just like shoes and glasses and brushed daily with your toothbrush and denture cleanser.

Teeth Bridging is a dental treatment to replace one or more missing teeth in your mouth, whereby an artificial tooth is fixed permanently to adjoining teeth which are crowned. It is a similar procedure as doing a crown. The adjoining teeth are prepared to receive crowns.

MESOTHERAPY INJECTIONS

Mesotherapy stimulates the mesoderm (mid-dermis), or middle layer of skin, with microinjections of conventional or homeopathic medication and/or vitamins to deliver treatment to a specific area of the body. Mesotherapy uses different injection techniques according to the patient's concerns, delivering the ingredients to different depths but typically quite shallow: 4-6mm. Many of these are not even felt as the skin is pinched prior to and during the injections. Since the injections are very superficial, they disperse very slowly and travel down to deeper tissues. PLATLETE RICH PLASMA (PRP) INJECTIONS

Platelet Rich Plasma, or also known as “PRP” is an injection treatment whereby a person’s own blood is used.

A fraction of blood (20cc‐55cc) is drawn up from the individual patient into a syringe. This is a relatively small amount compared to blood donation which removes 500cc. The blood is spun down in a special centrifuge (according to standard Harvest Techniques) to separate its components (Red Blood Cells, Platelet Rich Plasma, and Plasma. The platelet rich plasma is first separated then activated with a small amount of calcium to allow the release of growth factors from the platelets which in turn amplifies the healing process.
